With the bitterly cold weather we had this winter, I started experimenting with a new way to maximize my wardrobe: mixing sweaters! Here I paired a cardigan with a chunkier, textured sweater dress. Normally I would recommend wearing a belt with this ensemble, but I felt that the cowl and necklace balanced out the proportions pretty nicely (plus in all honesty, I just didn't want to deal with a belt on this particular day). Hey, fashion rules are meant to be broken every once in a while ;)
When mixing sweaters, I've found that I have the most success when pairing finer knits with chunkier ones, solids with patterns, cardigans with pullovers, long with short, etc. Of course, you have to be careful with proportions and make sure that you don't end up looking overly bulky. It takes some experimenting, but I think it adds interest, and it certainly makes for more outfit possibilities.
